Blades beat Walpole again in exhibition action

WALPOLE ISLAND – The Blenheim Blades took to the ice for the
second time in four days, this time again playing a PJHL Stobbs
Division exhibition game against the Walpole Island Wild in Walpole,
and skated to a 4-1 victory before 110 fans.
Sunday the two teams had played in Blenheim with the Blades
shutting out the Wild 7-0 before a crowd of 305.
Blenheim will now be idle until Sunday, Sept. 10 when the Wheatley
Sharks come to town for a 7 p.m. exhibition game.
Thursday’s game was closer on the scoreboard than Sunday’s with
the Blades scoring once in the first period, and three times in the
second, and the Wild’s goal coming the in second
Noah Bright opened the scoring for Blenheim at 4:59, with assists
going to Connor Roth and Quinn Pickering.
Blenheim went up 2-0 at 4:19 of the second period thanks to a goal
by Ian Campbell, assisted by Pickering and Gavin Meriano.
Walpole cut the Blenheim lead to 2-1 on a goal by Aaron Highfield
at 5:52, but Ryan Hayter made it 3-1 Blenheim at 16:56, and Dominic
Gore wrapped up the scoring for the night when he found the
Walpole net at 18:41.
Joey Hayter and Carson Lippert assisted on Ryan Hayter’s tally,
with Alex Webster and Andrew Goulet doing the same on Goure’s
goal.
BLADES BITS: The Wild had 11 PJHL veteran skaters in their lineup,
while the Blades had six…Blenheim outshot Walpole 44-27…Blenheim
took 11 penalties to seven for the Wild…Blenheim’s two netminders
from last season, Owen Lemieux and Jake Vancoillie, shared the
goaltending duties, with Lemieux picking up the victory…Two other

Stobbs Division teams were in exhibition action Thursday with the
Dresden Kings losing to the Exeter Hawks 4-1, and the Mooretown
also losing by a 4-1 count to the Mount Brydges Bulldogs.
