Sharks rally to beat Blades 4-3 in overtime

With just nine seconds left in sudden-death overtime the Wheatley Sharks’ Kyle Green scored his second goal of the night to give his team a 4-3 victory over the Blenheim Blades Wednesday night in Wheatley.

   The third-place Blades now have 34 points, while the fourth-place Sharks are at 29. The clubs have met four times this Provincial Junior Hockey League Stobbs Division season with Blenheim winning both their home games 1-0 and 5-2, and the Sharks taking both games in overtime in Wheatley 3-2 and 4-3.

   Besides Greene’s two goals the Sharks also got a pair from Shannon Olson.

   Sam Warriner, with his fourth tally of the season in the first period, Zach Van Boxtel, with his ninth goal in the second, and Brad McAlpine, with his fourth, in the third were the Blenheim goal getters.

   Van Boxtel was in his first game back after serving a seven-game suspension.

  Connor Wright was credited with two assists for the Blades, with Craig Spence, McAlpine and Ben Barnard chipping in with one each.

BLADES BITS: The Blades won five, lost one in regulation, and one in overtime for 11 points in December…The Blades will now be idle until Friday, Jan. 6 when they travel to Lakeshore to play the second-place Canadiens at 7 p.m., and then will be home Sunday, Jan. 8 to host the first-place Essex ’73s at 7…Not dressed Wednesday were forwards Evan Wells and Daniel Norton, along with defenceman Noah Prudhomme…Owen Lemieux was in net for Blenheim and faced 42 shots, while his teammates had 34 on the Sharks’ goal…Attendance was 318.
