Dave Baldwin Hall of Fame and Alumni Night is always a huge event for the
Blenheim Blades, past players and fans, and such was the case Saturday at the
Blenheim Arena.
Prior to the Blade’s 10-0 shutout victory over the Dresden Kings that moved
the club back into second place in the PJHL Stobbs Division by a point over the
Lakeshore Canadiens and Wheatley Sharks there were a pair of alumni games as
many former players returned to suit up.
In the 3 p.m. contest, Team Red defeated Team Gold 9-4 with Ben Campbell
leading the way with two goals and three assists.
Single tallies went to Calvin Hartford, Thomas Innes, John Lynch, Ryan Wilson,
Peter Cowan and Grant Patterson.
Shawn Hope had three assists, with Patterson and Hartford getting each, and
Aaron Blonde one.
Gold Team goals went to Kirk McKillop, a pair, Jake Fancy and Tyler Clark.
Taylor Phillips picked up three assists, Kirk McKillop two, and Shawn Simpson,
Cam Aitken and Bill Ford one each.
The game between Team White and Team Red ended in a 5-5 tie at the end of
regulation time, and need a shootout to be decided, with Team White getting
two goals in the shootout and Team Red one for a 7-6 victory.
Shootout goals for Team White went to Nick Delyzer and Drew Marlatt, with
regulation time markers being scored by Blair Derynck, Eric Stewardson, Ben
Patacki, Delyzer and Derynck.
Nolan Vandenboorn, Matt Clark, Derek Hueni, Bryce Broad and Bryan Boersma
had one assist each.
Evan Wells had a shootout goal and a regulation time goal, plus an assist for
Team Red.
Jake Fancy and Carter Wright scored a goal and picked up an assist each, with
Joe Betterley and Michael Vanek also scoring.
Brett Wegrzyn helped out with two assists.
