Flyers double up on Blades 6-3
PETROLIA – After going two games without scoring a goal the Blenheim Blades managed three Thursday night in their Provincial Junior Hockey League Stobbs Division game in Petrolia against the Flyers, but the only problem was Petrolia scored six times in beating the Blades 6-3.
For the Blades the loss was their fourth in a row, and the win for the Flyers ties them for sixth with Blenheim in the league standings at 25 points each – one ahead of the Dresden Kings.
Sunday the last-place Wallaceburg Thunderhawks will visit the Blenheim Memorial Arena to play the Blades at 7 p.m.
It was a former Blade – Michael Vanek – who led the way for the Flyers scoring their first two goals with Eric Marsh also netting two, and Clay Dolbear and Curtis Helps adding singles.
The Blades got a one goal in each period with Darby Lemieux scoring in the first, Derek Hueni in the second, and Spencer Chattel in the third.
Lemieux’s tally was his first since joining the Blades from the Junior ‘B’ Leamington Flyers, while Hueni netted his third and Chattel his second.
Assists went to Tate Bowden, two, and Lemieux, Chattel, Jaxon Bowden and Connor Wright one each.
