Blades fight back, but lose Game 3 to Flags 8-5

MOORETOWN – Down 5-1 going into the third period in Game 3 of
their best-of-seven Provincial Junior Hockey League Stobbs Division
quarter-final playoff series the Blenheim Blades scored four third-
period goals, but they weren’t enough as the team fell 8-5 to the
Mooretown Flags Saturday night in Mooretown.
Mooretown now leads the series 3-1, with the Blades needing to
win Game 4 Sunday night at 7 p.m. at the Blenheim Memorial Arena
to force the series to a Game 5 Wednesday in Mooretown at 7:30, and
hopefully a Game 6 back here Thursday at 7.
In other quarter-final play Saturday the Wheatley Sharks took a 2-0
lead over the Amherstburg Admirals thanks to a 5-0 shutout win, and
in Wallaceburg the Lakeshore Canadiens now lead their series with
the Wallaceburg Thunderhawks 2-0 after winning Game 2 5-1.
Sunday afternoon the Essex 73’s host the Petrolia Flyers, and will
look to take a 3-0 edge in that series, while the Sharks will try to do
the same over the Admirals Sunday night in Amherstburg.
Three Flags – Logan Gardner, ex-Blade Brodie Conlon and Nolan Farr
– had two goals each for Mooretown, with singles going to Jake Vince
and Ayden Letang.
Conlon now has five tallies in the series.
Tyler Ewald scored twice for Blenheim, giving him three series goals,
with Sam McKinlay, Ryan Terry and Trent Amaro getting the others.
Connor Wright had two assists, and McKinlay, Sebastian
Stubberfield, Seth Henderson, Amaro and Ben Barnard one each.
Caleb Pinsonneault started in goal for Blenheim and played the first
two periods, with Jake Vancoillie taking over for the third.

BLADES BITS: Not dressed for the Blades were Evan Minnie, Jared
Delaey, Jeff Carey and Connor Roth…In both games in Mooretown the
Blades were badly outshot – 57-36 Saturday and 53-29 in Game 1…In
Game 2 at Blenheim the shots were 38-33 in favour of the Blades, but
the score was 8-1 Mooretown…Attendance was 280.
