Blades beat Wallaceburg 4-2 to end exhibition season

The Blenheim Blades wrapped up their six-game exhibition play Sunday night
with a 4-2 victory over the Wallaceburg Thunderhawks before 147 fans at the
Blenheim Memorial arena.
The Blades went 3-2-1 in exhibition action and will head to Dresden Friday night
for a 7:30 Provincial Junior Hockey League Stobbs Division game against the
Dresden Kings. The teams played two exhibition games against each other, tying
the first 4-4, with Blenheim winning the second 2-1.
Blenheim’s home opener will be Sunday at 7 against the Petrolia Flyers.
Sunday’s game saw the Blades take a 2-0 lead thanks to a first-period goal by
rookie Brett Wegrzyn and a second period powerplay tally by veteran Seth
Henderson.
A powerplay goal by Jacob Vancoillie at 15:41 of the middle frame cut the
Blades lead to 2-1, with veteran defenceman Colton Shoemaker restoring
Blenheim’s two-goal advantage with a powerplay goal of his own before the
period ended.
Blades rookie Alec Webster made it 4-1 Blenheim at 9:38 of the third period,
with the Thunderhawks Nelson DeKoning wrapping up the scoring for the night at
15:26.
On the night Wallaceburg outshot the Blades 34-31 with Caleb Pinsonneault and
Jake Van Coillie splitting the net duties for Blenheim.
BLADES BITS: Two Blades, veteran Connor Wright and rookie defenceman Blain
Bacik, picked up suspensions for a late third period altercation with Wallaceburg’s
Adam Blak…Former Blade Joe Betterley and Blenheim rookie Connor Roth were
both ejected in the second period for fighting…Fans had to show they had been
double vaccinated for Covid before being allowed in the arena…None were
