Campbell’s OT goal puts Blades in Western Conference Tier 2 finals

Rookie forward Ian Campbell scored at 8:51 of sudden-death
overtime to give the Blenheim Blades a 3-2 victory over the Dresden
Kings Sunday night at the Blenheim Memorial Arena, and a berth in the
Provincial Junior Hockey League Tier 2 Western Conference best-of-
seven finals against the Petrolia Flyers.

The series will begin Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in Petrolia, with Game 2
back in Blenheim Sunday at 7.
The Blades dominated the OT outshooting the Kings seven to two,
with Campbell’s shot beating Kings netminder Owen Lemieux from
about 20 feet on the glove side.

On the night Blenheim outshot Dresden 46-20.
The Kings had taken a 1-0 lead just 1:45 into the game when Notah
Stonefish scored.

The Blades came right back to tie things at 3:26 when Evan Wells
scored a shorthanded goal with an assist going to Ben Barnard.
Zach Van Boxtel put the Blades up 2-1 at 10:57 of the middle 20
minutes. Assists on the goal went to Evan Minnie and Brett Wegrzyn.
The Blades continued to pepper the Dresden net with shots but could
not beat Lemieux through the rest of regulation time.

Blades veteran defenceman Colton Shoemaker took a tripping penalty
with 2:42 to go in the third period, and the Kings got a powerplay goal
from Jackson Arcand at 17:58 to force the overtime.

BLADES BITS: The Blades finished the double round-robin with two
overtime wins over the Kings, and two losses to the Flyers…Petrolia
won three of four games, while Dresden won just one of four…AP
defenceman Owen Reeve was called up to play as the Blades were
missing defencemen Ryan Terry, Sebastian Stubberfield and Cameron

Hazzard…Forward Jared Delaey returned to the lineup, however
forwards Tate Bowden and Trent Amaro missed the game because of
suspensions…They will each miss the first three games of the
finals…Attendance was 350…
