Blades Season Swept Aside After Game 4 Loss

Scoring, or the lack of scoring, was the story of this playoff series for The Blenheim Blades. The score clock read 7:13 in the second period of Game #1 when Tyler Clark scored for The Blenheim Blades. That was the last goal The Blades would score in the 2008 Playoffs. The Wallaceburg Lakers held Blenheim off the score sheet for over ten consecutive periods of hockey. And it’s not that The Blades didn’t have their chances. They found themselves with numerous power play opportunities but as the saying goes “If it wasn’t for Bad Luck The Blades would have NO Luck.” Sunday’s final home game of the season saw Wallaceburg get a power play goal just 52 seconds into the first period. Jordan Franchuk made The Blades pay when he fired one home past Mike Touma for a 1-0 Laker Lead. Willie Vyse would add another Laker’s goal before the first period ended at 17:28 to make it 2-0 and you could see The Blades had a mountain to climb. It definitely was not for their lack of effort, but they just couldn’t seem to get a break and slip one past Ryan George who shut the door time and time again and picked up his 3rd consecutive shutout in the playoffs. Wallaceburg would add their final goal of the game at 10:55 of the final period when Chris LaLonde scored unassisted to seal the series for The Lakers.

It’s worth noting that The Blades, Mike Touma, was outstanding in net, turning aside 29 of the 32 shots he faced in Game 4. In fact Touma was only beaten for 6 Goals on the 87 Shots that he faced during the 2008 Playoffs.
